  • Brian Kogon, MD, is board certified in adult and congenital cardiac surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He joined AdventHealth for Children’s elite pediatric and adult congenital heart surgery team from the University of Mississippi Medical Center – Batson Children’s Hospital, where he served as chief of pediatric cardiothoracic surgery and as interim chief of adult cardiothoracic surgery. Prior to that, he was chief of pediatric cardiothoracic surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and director of adult congenital cardiac surgery at Emory University Hospital. An Ohio native, Dr. Kogon earned his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati and carried out his surgical residency at Indiana University, where he was honored with the Socrates Award for Outstanding Chief Resident. He thereafter undertook dual fellowship programs at Indiana University and Emory University. Dr. Kogon is an award-winning teacher and clinician and an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American Association for Thoracic Surgeons, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, Congenital Heart Surgeons’ Society, Adult Congenital Heart Association, American Society of Transplant Surgeons and Cardiothoracic Surgery Network. As a cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Kogon’s areas of specialty include adult and pediatric congenital heart surgery, thoracic surgery, valve repair and replacement, as well as heart transplant and mechanical circulatory support.
